This past Saturday, members of the J. T. Alton Band competed for slots in the All-District Band at LaRue County Middle School. "These were students that wanted to go out and compete, and they earned their slots, these are really talented kids," said JTA Band Director
Competing against other middle school band students from ten different counties in our district, twelve Alton band students were awarded slots on the All-District Band. 8th Graders Aiden Wenzel Katherine Latham, Elizabeth Ferguson, Dylan Hall, Justus Grose, and Gracie Ashlock were all awarded slots; along with 7th Graders Alex Bonnes, Camye Cunningham, Riley Phillips, Cadence Ward, Ashthon Coppersmith, and lone JTA 6th Grader Zoe Maddox.
"Zoe getting on the roster, that's truly astounding work as a 6th Grader," said Witham, "This is probably a medium-sized group compared to years past, but this year I didn't make it a requirement, I wanted those who wanted to truly have the choice without added pressure."
8th Grade All-District Flute player, Katherine Latham, who qualified 2nd Chair, said that the experience was intimidating but rewarding. "I'm glad I did it because it helps me moving forward in high school, and with my confidence. It was a lot of fun, something I would definitely do again."
Witham Concluded by saying, "I'm really proud of this group, it's fun to watch them grow up with their instruments. They are really talented group."
