National Beta Club’s purpose “is to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, leadership and service among elementary and secondary students”. Members must maintain a 3.5 or above grade point average, demonstrate leadership, and participate in community service. On Thursday, September 19th, parents and family came to James T. Alton to support Beta Club inductees for the 2019-2020 school year.
The event was hosted by the Beta Club sponsor, Mrs. Crocker. Mr. Rick Skeeters, an active supporter of JTA, was the keynote speaker for the evening and gave an interesting talk on the value of Beta Club and leadership. He shared personal stories about how small acts of kindness can make a big impact on people’s lives.
Afterwards this year’s officers were installed, with 8th Grader Tori Geer serving as the club’s president. This was followed by the induction of new members. Mrs. Crocker provided some thoughtful closing remarks and afterwards refreshments were served in the cafeteria.
