Classroom Birthdays/Celebrations

HCS Wellness Policy requires... When food/beverage items are used outside of meals, such items shall comply with nutritional guidelines set out in Kentucky Administrative Regulation and federal law: Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act (2010). For this reason, we will no longer allow cake, cupcakes, donuts or cookies to be brought in for class celebrations.

Birthday celebrations with food will be allowed only if PRIOR arrangements have been made with the teacher.  We protect instruction time and respect the planning that goes into teaching. All foods must be individually pre-packaged and store brought. Punch and soda of any kind is not permitted.

Bring in these healthy snack ideas instead of cupcakes or cookies:

  • Popcorn
  • Goldfish Crackers
  • Pre-packaged fruit
  • Quaker Granola Bars
  • Pretzels
  • String Cheese
  • Veggies

We also strongly encourage families to send non-food items on birthdays. Instead of a food item, please consider sending something for the class to enjoy such as:

  • Pencils
  • A class game
  • Erasers
  • A classroom book (have your child pick it out, sign it, and date it)
  • Stickers
  • Donate a ball or jump rope for recess
  • Bookmarks

Balloons, flower arrangements, etc. are not permitted in the classroom, cafeteria and may not be sent on the bus.  We appreciate your support and understanding as we continue to provide all students a safe environment at North Park.
