I'm Ashlee Tomes (sounds like "Toms"), and this is my 17th year as a special education teacher with Hardin County Schools. Sixteen of those years have been with my Creekside family. I am from Hardin County and even went to Sonora Elementary School when I was little! :) I am married to Jonathan Tomes, who also teaches special education here at Creekside. We have two wonderful boys - Jagger (13) and Jack (9). We also have a daughter, London, who would be 11 if she were here. London was born with a severe congenital heart defect and died during open heart surgery when she was two days old. I tell you that because her life & death have shaped me as a person and as an educator. I would not be who I am today without my daughter, London. We happen to live in Sonora and love our community, our school, and our students!
As a special education teacher, I have high expectations for all of my students! I want them to strive to be the best they can be and to feel that they can conquer any challenge! Even more importantly, I want them to feel loved, secure, and confident while they are in my presence. There is so much more to life than being the smartest, having the highest score, or being the "best" at everything. I take pride in providing a classroom environment where my students can laugh, have fun, make mistakes, and know that they are winners! I want them to set goals, work hard to reach them, and celebrate their individual victories!
Having the opportunity to teach children is one of the most important jobs in the world. Having the opportunity to learn from them is priceless! They teach me way more than I could ever teach them! :)
