Colonel Michael Stewart joined the John Hardin team in January, 2019 as the Junior ROTC Senior Army Instructor following his retirement from the United States Army in January 2019. He is the Color Guard and Drill Team coach.

A native of Frankfort, Kentucky, Col. Stewart received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky in 1989. He earned his Masters of Science, Management, from the University of Maryland, University College in 2009, and his Masters in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College in 2012.  Col. Stewart received his commission through ROTC. He is also a graduate of the Signal Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms Services and Staff School, Command and General Staff College, the Airborne Course, and the Air Assault School. 

Col. Stewart is married to Jennifer Stewart, who currently teaches English at Bardstown High School, and previously taught at John Hardin H.S. and Bluegrass Middle School. Col. and Mrs. Stewart have two daughters. Madison received her Bachelor's in Nursing from the University of Kentucky in 2019, and his now a practicing nurse in Charleston, S.C. Lauren is a senior at the University of Kentucky majoring in History and minoring in Philosophy and Political Science. 

In his spare time, Col. Stewart enjoys fishing, hunting, cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats, and the John Hardin Bulldogs.
