Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) were established by the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA) in 1990.  The primary goal of FRYSCs is to help academically at-risk students succeed in school by helping to minimize or eliminate non-cognitive barriers to learning, however, NHHS YSC programming and services are open to all NHHS families and students.

The FRYSC Mission:
To enhance students’ ability to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships
that promote:
 Early learning and successful transition to school;
 Academic achievement and well-being; and
 Graduation and transition into adult life.

The FRYSC Vision:
The Kentucky Division of Family Resource and Youth Services Centers in the Cabinet for
Health and Family Services shall establish the national standard of excellence in the provision
of school-based family support.
Mandated Core Components of Youth Services Centers:
 Career exploration and development
 Referrals to health and social service
 Substance abuse education and counseling referrals
 Family crisis and mental-health counseling referrals

The North Middle Youth Services Center (YSC) helps NMS families and students solve
problems and overcome barriers to learning through programs and referrals.  The YSC is
managed by a coordinator who is responsible for developing and implementing activities,
programs, and services that best meet the needs of NMS students and families.  The YSC staff
works in collaboration with students, parents, school staff, community agencies, and an
Advisory Council to help facilitate a nurturing and productive learning environment that
empowers youth to become successful students and productive adults.

The NMS YSC Advisory Council is comprised of at least 1/3 parents no more than 1/3 community or 1/3 school
personnel, and student representation. The Advisory Council meets every other month starting
in September. If you would like to serve on this council, please contact the YSC Coordinator.
Meetings are open.

Please contact the NMS YSC for specific information on programs and resources.
