The Bluegrass Middle School Site-Based Decision Making Council has selected the school’s assistant principal, Tanya Jury, to serve as the school’s next principal.

She will be assuming the duties from current principal Michael Elmore who is retiring in June.

“I’m very excited and humbled to be chosen by the SBDM Council to be the next leader at Bluegrass Middle School,” Jury said.  “Bluegrass is near and dear to my heart. Our work to provide a phenomenal educational experience for our Bulldogs will continue.  Our students, staff and parents are tremendous.  I look forward to serving them to the best of my ability.”

Ms. Jury is her second stint as assistant principal at Bluegrass.  She returned this school year after working at Nelson County High School as an assistant principal and principal for a combined four years.  She came to BGMS the first time in 2013 as an instructional specialist and assistant principal in 2013 before leaving for NCHS in 2015. Her educational career started at Bardstown Middle School in 2006.  She taught reading, writing, science and social studies in her seven-year tenure there.

“Ms. Jury will do a great job as the school’s principal,” HCS Superintendent Teresa Morgan said.  “She knows the Bluegrass students, staff and families very well and her experience will be an asset.  She is well-versed in the instructional strategies that will help students be prepared for high school and beyond.”

Ms. Jury is a Washington County High School and Western Kentucky University graduate.  She earned her Master of Arts degree from Morehead State University.  She holds a doctoral degree in education from the University of Kentucky.
