Hi! I am excited to work with your child this year as the Math Support Teacher. This will be my third year at Heartland. The past two years I taught third grade Math.
Before teaching third grade at Heartland, I previously taught Kindergarten, first grade, and split K/1 and 2/3 classes. I started teaching in 2006, so this will be my sixteenth school year, which is hard to believe! I have been teaching long enough to have had the opportunity to attend the high school graduation of my very first class of Kindergarteners in May 2019!
I am originally from Pennsylvania and came to Kentucky to attend Asbury University. I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I returned to Asbury for my Masters degree in Reading and Writing. I have always enjoyed literacy. There is pure joy in helping a child learn to read! Just in the last couple of years, I was a part of a group of primary teachers who attended training sessions through the Kentucky Center of Mathematics. I saw this as an opportunity for growth and improving my math instruction, and it changed the way I think about and teach math!
I live in Elizabethtown with my family. My husband, Dan, teaches and coaches volleyball and tennis at North Hardin. We have two boys. Bradley will be 8 and in third grade at Heartland. He enjoys playing soccer and video games. Collin is 3 years old. He loves reading and acting out movies like Cars and Toy Story with his toys. We enjoy attending and serving at church, playing games (outside, board, card, video), and traveling to see family and friends in Ohio and Pennsylvania. I also enjoy home decorating, vacationing at the beach, and being involved with school and sports activities.
