I have been at GC Burkhead for 11 years. In those years I have taught 3rd Grade, 5th Grade, and most recently STEM Lab as part of the related arts rotation. I have loved being a part of the STEM Lab and engaging students through Science Technology Engineering and Math. I have seen astounding growth as students recognize their abilities and strengths in these areas. I see all students K-5 in the school at least one time per month.
In our STEM Lab, we focus mostly on the Engineering Design Process, which is the process for how to solve problems through building and making. Students are exposed to a variety of activities and experiences that allow them to work in groups to create projects and evaluate their projects for improvement. Within each project science and math skills are also taught and used. We also spend part of the year learning about Computer Sciences and how to program and code. Students also acquire a basic understanding of robotics.
I also serve as the VEX Robotics coach for GC Burkhead. VEX Robotics is a robotics team where students build and program robots. We have had a team since 2016 and we have earned several awards at competitions.
I have my Bachelor degree from Western Kentucky University in Elementary Education. I also have my Master Degree in Teacher Leadership and an endorsement in Computer Technology Education from Western Kentucky University. I also hold an administration degree at the University of the Cumberlands.
I am from Elizabethtown, KY where I currently reside with my husband Kevin. We have one little girl named Natalie. I spend a lot of time working and volunteering at my church in Elizabethtown where I serve with the worship team. I also enjoy shopping, reading and eating mexican food! I am a huge Harry Potter fan and watch the movies every time there is a Harry Potter Weekend!
I love teaching and I am excited to have your student in my class. Please know that I am available to you whenever you need me.
