The Vine Grove
Elementary staff believes open lines of communication between parents and staff
provide a solid foundation on which to build a strong partnership. This united effort ensures the most
effective educational program for all students. Furthermore, it is through close cooperation between school and
home that a student’s academic success is nurtured and enhanced. Of all the
adults who teach and care for children, parents are the most important. The opportunities they provide, as well as
the interactions they have with children, have the greatest potential to
influence children’s learning and development.
To ensure a strong parent involvement partnership in the school and
classroom, the staff will listen and make every attempt to understand the
parents’ goals for their children.
School staff and parents have developed the following policy.
·
During the first 9 weeks, the Vine Grove
Elementary Parent Involvement Policy, School-Parent Compact, and Exit
Expectations will be made available to parents.
·
Prior to the first day of school the
staff, in conjunction with the Family Resource Center and the PTO, will sponsor
a Ready Fest Program for the families attending Vine Grove Elementary School.
·
Parents will be invited to attend a Hardin
County Parent Meeting offered by the District Title 1 staff.
·
Grandparents will be invited to attend
support group sessions (“Open Arms”) provided through the Family Resource
Center.
·
Vine Grove Elementary will set up meetings
to provide parents with the opportunity to meet the staff, make suggestions,
share experiences with other parents, and receive materials and/or training
assistance, particularly in the areas of reading, writing, and assessment. Every effort will be made to assist parents
in overcoming obstacles to attend these meetings.
·
Parents and Staff are encouraged to
communicate on a regular basis and to conference as needs arise.
·
Literacy First Reading and Title 1
information will be incorporated in the Vine Grove Elementary School
newsletter. This communication will
provide ideas and/or suggestions for home reinforcement of skills and concepts
taught at school.
·
Parents will be kept informed of their
child’s progress.
·
Parents will receive timely information
about their child’s state test assessment results and have the opportunity to
have the results explained to them as needed.
·
Parents are encouraged to volunteer at
Vine Grove Elementary School. Many
opportunities are available including working with individuals in the
classroom, working with a small group, preparing materials at home or at
school, working at a special event, participating on a Site-Based Decision
Making Council Committee, Title 1 District Advisory Council, and many other volunteer opportunities.
·
Parents will have the opportunity to
assist in planning, reviewing and offering suggestions on school programs,
parent involvement, and other aspects of the Vine Grove Elementary School
experience that will benefit our students.
·
A school-parent compact will be designed
by parents and school staff that outlines how parents, school staff, and
students will share the responsibility for improvement in learning. This
compact will be used to guide Vine Grove Elementary through the school year.
