VINE GROVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Parent Involvement Policy

2011-12

Throughout the school year, Vine Grove Elementary School faculty and staff encourages the involvement of parents through an active Parent Volunteer Program, FOR-YOU Family Resource Center and Parent Teacher Organization. We believe a unified effort between parents and the school staff will build a solid foundation to ensure student success.

To guarantee strong parent involvement in the school and classroom, the staff will listen and make every attempt to understand the parents’ goals for their children.  In addition, school staff and parents have developed the following policy.

Communicating Information

·         A School-Family Learning Compact and Parent Involvement Policy will be distributed to each child upon enrollment asking parents to sign and commit to a partnership with the school.  A copy of these agreements can be found in the Pupil-Parent Handbook.

·         Information related to school and parent programs, meetings and other activities will be communicated through school newsletters, calendars, website and personal invitations sent home with students.

·         Parents will be provided with timely information about the Title I school-wide program through parent meetings, the school website and newsletters throughout the year.

·         Information about the school curriculum, Kentucky’s Core Content, forms of assessment used to measure progress and the proficiency level students are expected to meet will be distributed by the school staff through informational fliers, meetings, school website and/or parent conferences.

·         Parents will receive timely information about their child’s state assessment and have the opportunity to have the results explained to them by the guidance counselor, school administrative staff and/or classroom teacher.

Parent Participation

·         Parents will receive materials and have opportunities to participate in literacy, technology and other training sessions to help improve their child’s achievement.

·         Parents will have opportunities to participate in school decision-making regarding the education of their children through PTO, the School-Based Decision-Making Council, school committees and parent-teacher conferences.

·         Parents will be involved in the planning, reviewing, and improvement of the school’s Title 1 school-wide program and Parent Involvement Policy through the annual evaluation of the Title 1 program, SBDM council meetings and in the development of the school’s Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.

·         Barriers to parental participation, (i.e. transportation, childcare, etc.) will be addressed based on individual needs and may be funded by Title 1 in conjunction with the FOR-YOU family resource center.

·         Parents are encouraged to volunteer at Vine Grove Elementary School.  Many opportunities are available to include working with individual students as well as small groups in the classroom, preparing materials at home or school, volunteering at a special event, participating on the Site-Based Decision Making Council Committee and Title 1 District Advisory Council. (Note: A Youth Leader Request Form MUST be completed and approved for anyone to volunteer in the school.)

·         A survey of all current VGES parents will be conducted in the Spring to collect input about the current school year and to obtain suggestions for improvement for the following school year.

Meetings

·         Parents will be informed at Rosters R’ Ready Open House meeting of the school’s participation in the Title 1 program, the requirements of the program and their right to be involved.

·         Parent meetings and conferences will be held at various times and locations to meet the needs of families to include teacher planning periods, before and after school as well.

Vine Grove Elementary

School-Family Learning Compact
