We Are ALL Different Video 4, Nobility |
|
Objective:
A.
Students who watch this video should gain an understanding of what it means to
be noble minded.
B.
Students should have a good idea of how to treat people fairly and in a
manner they would like to be treated themselves.
Situation:
While we see many examples of small mindedness or
injustice, intolerance and prejudice, there are also many fine examples of noble
mindedness. There have been and
continue to be many people who go out of their way to help their fellow man.
Whether it is a student that befriends an unpopular classmate, or a
country that reaches out to help a Third World nation, noble mindedness is a
goal we must all strive for.
Example:
A
historical example of noble mindedness is found in
Albert Schweitzer. Having
distinguished himself as a musician and as a theologian, Schweitzer went on to
become a medical doctor and dedicated himself to meeting the medical needs of
the people of Gabon in French Equatorial Africa.
He is known for the ethic he developed, the central feature of which is a
reverence for all forms of life. His
influence continues today through the books that he wrote and the foundation
that established.
A current example of nobility is found in the family of Nicholas Green. Nicholas, an elementary student from California was killed while on vacation with his family in Italy. When his parents decided to donate his organs, many lives were touched and others were led to donate organs as well. This is known as the "Nicholas Effect".
