I   Student Account Assignments

Student accounts will be created for all students from first grade through high school senior (grades 1 thru 12).  These accounts will be used in order to gain E-Mail access for all students, and Internet access for all middle and high school students (grades 6 thru 12).

The student account names are constructed as follows:

            Graduation Year

            First Initial

            Middle Initial (If Applicable)

            Complete Last Name

For example:  James R. Johnson who is a senior:

            03JRJOHNSON

If there is a conflict in account names, a number will be added to the end of the student account name.

Example:            1st  03JRJOHNSON

          2nd  03JRJOHNSON1

          3rd  03JRJOHNSON2     Etc, Etc….

II   Student Account Lookup

Any faculty/staff member may lookup student account information via a password-protected website.  This website is accessible using any valid Hardin County login/password combination.

            http://tech.hardin.k12.ky.us/sal

The user will be prompted for his/her name and password.  On the next screen, the user may enter a the student’s LAST NAME.    A Listing of all students in the district that match the LAST NAME entered will be displayed.  In this display, the Student’s full name, their login ID, their school and Internet/Email access permissions will be listed.  Another student seach may be conducted by selecting ‘Lookup Another Student’ at the top of the screen.

III  Student Permissions

Permission for students to access E-Mail or the Internet is granted through STIOffice software.  The attendance clerk, or other school-designated person, can make the changes in STI.  This information will be sent to the student network system for account updates.  These updates will occur every night.

It is the school’s responsibility to verify parental/guardian consent for network access before granting or denying access in STI.

By default, every student will have their E-Mail account deactivated and Internet access denied until it is granted within STIOffice software.

IV  Student Account Passwords

All student accounts will be assigned the word ‘password’ as the password by default.  Students will change their password to one of their choosing via the web.  All passwords MUST be changed before first use.  If a student forgets or loses their password, it can be reset.  In order to request a student account for reset, a faculty/staff member will submit a technology workorder giving the Student’s Full Name  or their LoginID (03JRJOHNSON, You can verify/lookup this information via the web.  See Section II)  The technicians can reset student passwords.  NO STUDENT ACCOUNT WILL BE RESET WITHOUT AN ELECTRONICALLY SUBMITTED TECHNOLOGY WORKORDER.  It is also strongly recommended that you enter your email address on the workorder form as this is the only was you will be notified when the account has been reset. Please remember, all passwords are case sensitive.

V   Student Account Troubleshooting

If a student is having problems access E-Mail or the Internet, you should first verify that the student does indeed have access.  This can be verified via the web. (See Section II).  If the student does not have access, but should have, the attendance clerk, or other school-designated staff, using STIOffice software, may grant it.  The system will automatically update during the night and will be active the next school day.  A technician, the network administrator, nor the Technology Department can make these changes.
