It’s that time of year. It is time for
personal reflection before entering into the holiday
season. This year, I thought I would include each of you in
an effort to keep all of us focused and grounded on what is
really important. Day in and day out, most of us
move through life in a hurry. We go from one place to the
other believing we never have enough time to get things
done. There is more time than we think if we just realize
that we are the creators of the life we choose to
live. I recently ran across a book called Stress is a
Choice and I saw a clear picture of my own life. The
book clarified that life is a series of choices and being
free from stress, or at least minimizing stress, is one of
those choices.
The author shared the world is a natural whirlwind that
tempts us to fit more into our personal and professional
lives. And because we are so “busy being busy”, it’s easy
to get caught up in the stress and fury of the moment.
Change in itself is stressful. This year with the new
standards and testing system, we have our share of change.
This is controlled by our attitude toward change. Facing
some of life’s unforeseen surprises will always be
stressful; however, we must realize that although we cannot
control what happens to us, we are totally in control
of what happens within us. How we deal with what
comes our way is all about our attitude. When it comes
right down to it, many things that cause me to get
‘unnerved’ are what I would classify as “self-imposed”. I
try to do too much or fit more into a day, hour and
sometimes a minute than can possibly be done. I rush to
meet “my” personal deadline and expectations and then get
stressed as I race to beat the clock. Does this sound
familiar?
Sometimes I try to step back and remember
that the greatest achievements have often come from the
simplest of ideas and in the simplest forms. As we head into
the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and plan our
special times with family and friends, this is a good lesson
to remember. When time is against you and you feel the
stress taking control, step back, take a deep breath and
focus on what is most important in the grand scheme of
things. When we can keep it simple and avoid the rush, we
will enjoy the scenery on the journey.
Quality Quote – Take time to
stop and give thanks. In the rush of life, we tend to take
our blessings for granted. |
