Mission Statement

The goal of the Alternative Programs is to "Help All Children Succeed."  Some students need alternate routes to reach their destination.  Our Alternative programs provide educational opportunities for students who have had difficulty learning in a traditional classroom setting. With this in mind, the Alternative Programs are constantly striving to meet the needs of all student in a positive and challenging way.

Alternative Education

The Hardin County School District is a leader in the state in the area of alternative education.  The spectrum of programs ranges from those for the academically gifted to those who are challenged either physically or emotionally.   Meeting the special needs of children are such programs as:
bulletExcel Program, Teen Parenting & Child Development Center.
bulletHardin County High School, a night high school

These programs enjoy a 90% success rate in enabling young people to complete their high school education.

Community Services

The Hardin County School District believes its obligation for providing educational opportunities extends to the entire community.   In keeping with that belief, the district has developed and nurtured educational programs for all ages.  The Hardin County Adult Education program services over 1,400 adults annually in the areas of GED, ABE, and ESL.  Two learning centers and additional satellite classes strive to serve all of Hardin county.  Over 300 GED diplomas were earned in 1998-99.  In local communities throughout the county, the Project Outreach community education operated jointly with Hardin County Fiscal Court, opens school facilities one to three nights a week and some weekends for education and recreational activities for all ages.

Parental needs are addressed through the School-Age Child Care program which provides after school care for nearly 300 children at 10 elementary schools and Brown Street Education Center
