Learning Zone--Look for an A-to-Z list of composer biographies, a glossary
of musical
terms, and music used
in movies. Click on Introduction to Classical Music and then Musical
Instruments for the history of strings,
woodwinds, brass, percussion, and keyboard.
Music Magic--Welcome to the Music
Magic Online Piano Tutor. Here are tips on how to play the piano, read basic
notes, and learn basic rhythm. Use the online musical encyclopedia to learn
about instruments and download sheet music.
Museum of
Musical Inventions--A virtual museum of musical creations, this site puts
student-made instruments on the Web. Tour the exhibits of instruments and learn

Musi-Cal Music events calendar.
Musi-Cal lists the dates and locations of upcoming concerts, festivals, and
other musical events around the world, and allows promoters, record labels,
venues, and even fans to submit tour and other event itineraries. Musi-Cal
uniquely emphasizes data quality over a glossy appearance and is never out of
date. Full access to all entries viathe Web or email.
Youth Music/Youth Culture A good variety of links go beyond
performers to on-line magazines, academic sites for music/culture, listings
organized by type of music, song lyrics, audio clips, and Usenet newsgroups.
Addicted to Noise A monthly online
rock magazine mixing features, sound samples, photography and graphics. Unlike
print magazines that spawn on-line version, ATN is only available on line. Scan
album reviews or artist profiles, see CD cover art, then listen to song and
interview clips.

Bach Home Page This very comprehensive site appears to include
pointers to everything about Bach available on the Net, including listings of
his complete works, MIDI files of his recordings, and a calendar of upcoming
events related to his music. The site is searchable, and the complete works
listing can be browsed by category, title, year, instrument & title,
instrument & year, BWV number, or even by key. Title, conductor/performer,
instrument, BWV, record label, and recent submissions organize the Recommended
Recordings section. Also available are links to biographies, photographs,
literature, and other sites offering resources on Bach.
The Ultimate Band List Claims to
be the Web's largest list of interactive music links. Bands can be browsed alphabetically,
by genre, including pop rock, hard rock, jazz, new age, and dance/techno/rap,
or by Internet resource. Information on each band may include discographies,
lyrics, audio, guitar tablatures, mailing lists, and Web connections. The
entire site is searchable.

College Music Society Consortium
of college, conservatory, and university faculty, is dedicated to gathering,
considering, and disseminating ideas on the philosophy and practice of

The Society provides a forum for addressing interdisciplinary issues within
music in higher education and for examining broader educational concerns.
Archive of Dissertation Abstracts in Music
International compendium of abstracts of dissertations in music both complete
and in progress. The list is alphabetical by author and contains links to
abstracts.
Music Theory Online (MTO) Dissertation Index Includes completed dissertations as
well as dissertations in progress. With one exception, the dissertations date
from 1990 onward. The list is arranged alphabetically by author and contains
links to abstracts and outlines.

Afro-Caribbean Musics is
a musical journey through the Afro-Carribean world that begins with a visit to
this amazing collection of musical recordings by country, artist, instrument,
or musical style. There are even MIDI clips of drum rhythms, plus samples of
reggae, conga, lambada, and soca musical styles.
AskEric Lesson Plans, Arts: Music introduces students
to music composition, rhythmic patterns, and musical instruments.
Classical Net offers 2,400 links to other classical
music Web sites and descriptions of different musical periods, a composer index
with timelines and biographies, music reviews, articles, a topical
bibliography, and links to classical music listservs and newsgroups.
Music Ed Webquarters is a great collection of online resources for music teachers,
including band, choral, and percussion handbooks, reviews of top-selling band
and orchestra method books, lesson plans, fundraising suggestions, tips for
dealing with parents, plus information about instruments.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum includes tours of current museum
exhibits, information about 500 songs that shaped the world of rock 'n' roll,
audio clips, plus lesson plans for teachers.
The MIDI Farm includes a Free Files Selection to
spruce up multimedia presentations. A user-friendly search engine lets you
locate melodies by categories from A(nthems) to W(orld).
ChoralNet With
active e-mail lists, categorized links, and practical
information, ChoralNet is a useful starting point for choir directors and

Publishers, is like having a music textbook
online. Check out the
glossary, where you can read the
definition for saxophone, then click to hear an example of tenor sax in Ravel's
"Bolero." Eras and Composers round out the offerings on this great
site. Not all sections have audio files
linked, but the variety of information and audio clips offer students of all
ages a wonderful resource.
