Read through the annotations, which are arranged alphabetically by name, and visit the WWW sites, if available, to read archived postings. Perhaps you will be intrigued by one or two of the lists and subscribe! You can subscribe for a short period of time, get a feel for the list, and unsubscribe if it doesn't meet your needs. (Remember to leave the subject area blank when subscribing to discussion lists, and when sending your request, replace the <brackets> with the information requested.)

 

Distribution Lists

 

CoSn (Consortium for School Network) a national organization established to promote the development and use of telecommunications in K-12 schools, provides a forum for discussion of various telecommunications topics via their electronic mail lists. The COSNDISC list is available to all online users, while the other CoSn lists are only available to CoSn members. EdNet: Educators Network

EdNet, an unmoderated mailing list that explores the educational potential of the Internet, provides a forum for educators from all over the globe to connect, exchange ideas, and establish participation in telecollaborative projects.

Global SchoolNet (GSN) Mailing Lists

I*EARN

I*EARN, the International Education and Resource Network also highlighted in lesson 4, sponsors telecollaborative e-mail activities.I*EARN Learning Circles are "highly interactive, project-based partnerships among a small number of schools" and I*EARN Conferences "link people and resources" on the Internet. Although these e-mail-based projects are not strictly listservs, they are highly telecollaborative in nature. IDEAS-LIST is a repository for "the best" collaborative learning projects on the Internet and provides the subscriber with collaborative project announcements. Projects are posted for distribution only after they are reviewed to insure that posted projects meet the list's criteria for outstanding telecollaborative projects.

K12 Net is a network of school-based Fido-Net-compatible electronic bulletin board systems through which electronic curriculum-related conferences are shared. "Project channels" are assigned to projects to facilitate global participation. Projects have included the collaboration on and compilation of Top Ten lists, MathMagic, cookbooks, composition critiquing, and more! Key Pal Requests and Invitations to Join Collaborative Classroom Projects

This listserv monitors other collaborative project-based listservs and compiles and posts invitations to educators and students to join in collaborative projects, key pal programs, and exchange information about collaborative activities. KIDLINK World Network

Kidlink aims "at getting as many children in the age group 10-15 as possible involved in a global dialog." This listserv provides the means for over 87 countries to make global electronic connections. KIDLINK is the official "channel" to which you must subscribe to gain access to all KIDLINK discussion groups and receive project announcements. Some KIDLINK discussion groups:

 

KIDCAFE-INDIVIDUAL is a forum for 10-15 year-olds to connect to other young adults throughout the world. Participants are asked to answer four biographical questions to introduce themselves and may then proceed in their electronic key pal discussions.

 

KIDFORUM is a listserv created as a forum for the exchange of student work on a variety of monthly topics scheduled in advance.

 

KIDLEADER provides an informal discussion group for teachers, coordinators, parents, and others involved in KIDLINK for idea exchanges, curriculum development, networking, help, and invitations for collaborative projects.

 

KIDPROJ provides a forum for teachers and youth group leaders to distribute and collaborate on projects for students.
