Link students with native foreign language speakers for directed activity or study
Peer editing with a twist: connect students to peer editors who have specialized knowledge or background about their topic

The Book Read Project connects classrooms who are studying the same texts. It also connects the classes to the author in many instances. This project helps to improve the appreciation, discussion and understanding of literature, while also promoting telecommunications as an effective learning tool.

Web Collaboration

Study a book from another culture with a classroom from that culture
Collect book reviews from peers around the world for a book review database

Web Resource

Learn more about an art form from another culture, such as haiku
Access news accounts from major media for writing assignments
Get reactions to major breaking news from stakeholders for journalism activities
Access interesting information about an author or work through a Web site
Research a theme or topic in an author's work using books available online.
Gather background information on cultures represented by world literature.

Web Survey

Identify recommended reading (Students love to know what their peers think)
Get background information or statistics for a journalism project

Community Connection

Profile grandmothers, mothers, and daughters from your community on your Web site. Include an advice columnist that helps girls through adolescence.
Profile different careers of community members on your site for your career office.
Create an online survey about a controversial issue in your district. Publish the results in your local newspaper.

Simulations

Assign roles for major characters in a novel. Have students role-play a new ending for the book.

Web Publishing

Publish a newsletter or magazine featuring students' writing. Solicit articles from the larger world community.
Assign students to research a topic and make the results available to others via Web site (on Elizabethan England, for example)
Have students write PSAs for issues they care about and publish to a Web site.

Multimedia

Have students work with the music department to score their creative writing, then publish to a Web site.
Have students combine artwork and music they found on the Web for a slide presentation.
