Possible Math Web Applications
04/17/2001
Web Mentor
- Have a mathematician
available to answer complex questions.
- Pair students with
professionals who use math at work (for interesting applied math problems
from a real-world context).
Web Resource
- Access interesting data
for students to use in statistics problem sets.
- Find problem sets for
all age levels.
Web Collaboration
- Collaborate with other
classrooms on a polling project
- Collaboratively problem
solve across age levels (the younger students will learn from the older,
the older will find teaching a concept reinforces it).
Web Survey
- Survey schools for any
quantitative research project.
- Teach basic statistics
through polling.
Cooperative Challenge
- Have your students design
and then moderate a Problem of the Week collaboration..
- Create a cooperative
game at your Web site around a math concept. (For example, using IRC, have
students from all over join in teams to solve math problems. Offer
progressively more difficult questions.)
- Have your AP students
create a site where students can practice taking a sample AP test.
- Create a simple Internet
math scavenger hunt for younger students. (Count the number of dinosaurs
you can find on the Net.)
