12  Visit your public library & apply for a library card.  Choose a book to check out and read.

16  Last Day of School!

17  Read the first chapter or the first few pages of a book.  Read it slow at first then read it  again, this time a little faster.

18  Read another chapter or the first few pages of your book.  Write a brief summary in  your journal.  Share it with a family member.

19   Read your story or a new book.  Create a story map: title, characters, setting, events.  How are the characters important?

20  Practice addition/multiplication facts (spend 20 minutes reviewing)

21 Read a book about sports or animals.

22  Check out the sports page in the newspaper. Locate the teams that won each game.  Tell how many pts they won by.

23  Read your sports or animal book. Write a summary of the book in your journal. Be sure to include details from the beginning, middle & end.

24  What does it take to be a good athlete? Think about the characteristics of one. Write a paragraph in your journal.

25  Play secret word with a family member. Give clues about the meaning of words, see if your partner can guess. Use: ball, team, sport

26  Research: Baseball How far is it from home- plate to 1st base? What is the distance around the bases? 

27  Become a writer when you visit http://teacher.scholastic.com/writewit/index.html. Produce a piece of writing.

28  Practice addition/multiplication facts (spend 20 minutes reviewing)

29  How many words can you think of that deal with friends. Write these words in your journal. Then share.

30  Think about the books you have read & the words you have encountered. Did you remember to write them in your journal? Share them.

31  Using the words you encountered on May 30th, create  math word problems.  Then solve and check your work. Show your work in your journal.
