A student must be five years old on or before August 1 for that student to attend Kindergarten in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The date of August 1 is a revision to Kentucky law that had used October 1 as the deadline.
In accordance with that law (KRS 158.031(6), Hardin County Schools has established criteria for early entrance into Kindergarten. A student who turns five years old between August 2nd and October 1st may be eligible for early entry, provided that the student meets criteria established by the Hardin County Board of Education. Packets that detail the requirements are now available at all HCS elementary schools. For names, addresses and phone numbers for each school, interested persons can CLICK HERE.
The following is the criteria for early entrance to Kindergarten:
- Child must be a resident of Hardin County, Kentucky; and
- Child must turn five between August 2nd and October 1st of the admission year; and
- Child must score at or above the 95th percentile on two assessments.
The Hardin County Schools’ Early Admissions Committee will determine which children may be eligible for early entrance, based on these criteria. Within two weeks of a child’s assessment, notification of committee decisions will be provided either in writing or by phone.
Those interested in children being considered for early entrance for the 2017-18 school year should complete and return the following items by June 1, 2017 to the Office of Early Childhood, Hardin County Board of Education, 65 W.A. Jenkins Rd, Elizabethtown, KY 42701.
