1. dialect- the way a person who lives in a specific geographical area might speak

2. exposition- introduces the reader to the characters and the setting early in a story

3. independent clause- a phrase that has a subject and verb and can stand alone as its own sentence

4. simple sentence-a sentence with one subject and at least one predicate

5. third person-a way of telling a story from the point of view of someone who is not involved in the story

6. third-person limited- a point of view in which "he" and "she" are used, and readers learn little about all characters' thoughts

7. third-person omniscient- a point of view in which "he" and "she" are used, and readers learn much about all characters' thoughts

8. Associative Property of Addition-When three or more numbers are added, the sum is the same regardless of the grouping of the addends. For example (2 + 3) + 4 = 2 + (3 + 4)

9. Associative Property of Multiplication -When three or more numbers are multiplied, the product is the same regardless of the grouping of the factors. For example (2 x 3) x 4 = 2 x (3 x 4) 10.attribute- A characteristic of an object such as color, shape, size, etc

11. axis (plural: axes) The vertical and horizontal lines that make up the quadrants of a coordinate plane

12. coordinate plane a plane formed by the intersection of a horizontal number line with a vertical number line

13. expression -A mathematical phrase without an equal sign.

14. exponent a mathematical notation that implies the number of times a number is to be multiplied by itself

15. hundredth-  One out of one hundred equal parts; the position of the second digit to the right of the decimal point

16. mixed number- A number written as a whole number and a fraction

17. simplest form- when a fraction is expressed with the fewest number of pieces possible (also lowest term)

18. simplify -to express a fraction in simplest form

19. tenth- One out of one ten equal parts; the position of the first digit to the right of the decimal point

20. thousandth -One out of one thousand equal parts; the position of the third digit tothe right of the decimal point
