During tenure at North Hardin High School, a student who has copied or paraphrased other materials, either written or electronically, and submitted the work as his/her own, is guilty of plagiarism.  After the teacher has proof that a student has plagiarized an assignment, the teacher will fill out a disciplinary
form to report the offense, place a copy of the report in a central file, and check the central file for previous offenses.  Each offense will have the following repercussions:

  • 1st offense - the student will receive a zero on the assignment.

  • 2nd offense - the student will receive a zero on the assignment,
    a parent/teacher conference will be held with all his/her
    teachers, and will receive discipline according to the
    school’s consequence sequence.

  • 3rd offense - student will receive a zero on the assignment, a
    parent/teacher conference will be held with all his/her
    teachers, will receive discipline according to the school’s
    consequence sequence.

 If a portfolio or portfolio piece is plagiarized, the student must redo the plagiarized piece in the presence  of a designated teacher.  A senior will be barred from all senior activities from the time the plagiarized piece is discovered until graduation and from participation in graduation exercises, given a zero for the assignment, and will participate in a parent/teacher conference with all his/her teachers.
