Ongoing Assessment
Every nine weeks in each class, students will complete two
or more on-going assessment activities to demonstrate their learning and to
ensure continuous student progress.
Teachers are responsible for making sure that those activities:
- Are
aligned with the school’s curriculum documents, the Core Content for
Assessment, and the Program of Studies.
- Are
valid and appropriate demonstrations of what students should know and be
able to do.
- Have
clearly defined scoring guides that are shared with students prior to the
assessment and reflect the appropriate levels of difficulty for the ages
and developmental stages of learners.
Assessments should require student to use inquiry, problem-solving
and higher-order thinking skills to advance student learning to the
proficient level.
- Provide
opportunities several times a year for students to choose among a variety
of ways they can demonstrate learning, including options appropriate to
preferred learning styles.
Assessments should provide a variety of tasks (projects, writing
tasks, culminating, events, and presentations requiring valid
demonstrations of information learned).
Teachers will used a variety of assessments that target the
multiple intelligences and student learning styles. Assessments should be frequent and
ongoing to be regularly analyzed to identify gaps in the curriculum and
student learning.
- Provide
meaningful feedback to students including opportunities to reflect,
self-evaluate, and strengthen their performance.
- Whenever
possible, be part of the regular learning process, with separate
activities used only when imbedded ones are not feasible.
Evaluation of Performance Levels
- Throughout
the year, based on ongoing assessments and observations, teachers and the
administration team will discuss student performance.
- Through
team meetings and/or faculty meetings, teachers will participate in the
analysis of student work.
- Administration
will monitor student performance through observations, walkthroughs, and
review assessments.
- A nationally
normed assessment will be used to measure annual progress of students. The
Measures of Academic Performance (MAP) will be given throughout the
year. Data will be shared with the
council regarding overall student progress (percent meeting or above
proficiency as a whole and by sub-groups).
Reporting of Performance Levels
- From
ongoing assessments, teacher’s will make recommendations to the
administration team on which students need extra assistance to help
students reach maximum potential.
- The data
from open responses and writing on demand will be utilized by
administration to target students who are scoring novice and apprentice.
- MAP
assessments scores will be given to administration and discussed with the
staff/council.
Principal Responsibility
Within two weeks after each grading period ends, the
principal or a member of the administration team will use the ongoing
assessment data to create a report. This
report will include the percent of students in each grade level at each
performance level, with data from the entire grade. This report will be shared with the
staff/council. These reports will be
considered part of the school council’s School Improvement plan Implementation
and Impact Checks. These reports will
help identify the gaps with Meadow View’s student population so that needs can
be clearly diagnosed and targeted.
Kentucky Performance Report will be analyzed to target
curriculum gaps and instructional areas of improvement.
Policy Evaluation
We will evaluate the effectiveness of this policy through
our School Improvement Planning Process.
