Identification and Services

*Everything for nomination and inclusion in the Primary Talent Pool is subjective.  Selection is based on multiple evidences.  No student will be denied Primary Talent Pool services based on only one criterion.  Three criteria will be used for selection.  The criteria may include:

·        Portfolio entries

·        Anecdotal notes

·        Samples of student work:  The criterion is met if samples show evidence of high potential learners.

·        Teacher Referral Form with checklist of gifted behaviors.

In addition, selection can be done according to special consideration that include environmental, language, cultural, and economic.

*When a student is informally selected, parents will be notified by letter requesting their permission to provide services that must be signed and returned.  This letter will clearly state that this is a talent pool and the student exhibits traits and characteristics of a gifted student.

These primary students will receive services through collaboration and consultative effort on the part of the GT Resource Teacher and the classroom teacher.  Collaboration is a situation in which the GT Resource Teacher may model enrichment teaching techniques for the classroom teacher.  During collaboration, the GT Resource teacher is modeling techniques or materials in a whole-class situation (once or twice per semester depending on given schedule) and the classroom teacher shall remain in the classroom.  During Consultation, the GT Resource Teacher may provide instructional information and materials to the primary education teacher so that the appropriate and adequate services may be provided to the informally identified student in the regular classroom setting.

*Service delivery options that may be available to the students in the Primary Talent Pool are:

·        Various acceleration options

·        Collaborative teaching

·        Consultation services

·        Differentiated study experiences in the regular classroom

·        Enrichment activities during the school day

·        Cluster grouping
