Grandparents/ Acting Parents
Raising Children
Support Group
Are you a grandparent or other relative raising a
child other than your own?
Modern day parenting is
challenging for anyone, and can present special challenges for a grandparent or
other relative raising a child for the second time.
The
challenges you face as a parent again are quite different from challenges of
raising your own children.
The
stresses of our complex society have a profound effect on the structure of
today's families.
Substance
abuse, unemployment, teenage pregnancy, and mental health issues can seriously
impair the ability to parent effectively.
When
parents are unable to cope, grandparents and other relatives are often called
upon to provide a stable home for children.
An excellent way to explore
the similarities you may share with others is to join a support group. You can learn how others in similar
situations are managing.
Who should attend?
Grandparents
and acting parents who may be experiencing:
Frustration
Emotional stress
Financial
problems
Legal questions
and problems
Lack of resources
Why should you attend?
The challenges you face as a
"second-time around" parent are quite different from the challenges
of raising your own children.
This program
is designed to help bring essential resources to forming, maintaining, and
successfully supporting your relationship with your grandchildren.
It
will assist you in resolving problems, reducing stress and finding valuable new
resources.
