Teen Leadership Conferences

In collaboration with our family youth family resource center, a teen leadership conference is held for each grade level.  The day is divided into mini workshops and students have a picnic lunch.

Workshops for the sixth graders include  bullying, crafts, making ice cream, team building, nutrition, sexual harassment, values, self-esteem, drugs and alcohol, and preventing violence.

The seventh grade workshops include puberty, drugs and alcohol, preventing violence, values, self-esteem, team building, nutrition, crafts, and making ice cream.

The workshops for the eighth graders include personal safety, date rape, puberty, values, team building, self-esteem, budgeting, drugs and alcohol, crafts, and making ice cream.

JTA CAREER DAY

Every year all eighth graders take a career interest inventory.  For the JTA Career Day, the students select one job they would like to have based upon the results of the career inventory.  Students research their selected career including starting salary and education needed.  Students will then decide if they want to have a spouse and children.  If they want to be married and have children, they must draw cards which indicate spouse's occupation and number of children.  After determining the family's gross monthly income, students deduct taxes to determine the family's net income.  Area businesses participate which allows students to start a bank account, purchase/rent houses, purchase automobiles, insurance, groceries, and childcare.  Utility companies also participate.    Students also learn about taxes because they must pay taxes on automobiles and property.  If students successfully visit all booths and have money left in the bank, they receive either a Pay Day candy bar or $100 Grand candy bar.  If they are bankrupt, they get a Zero candy bar.  JTA Career Day is scheduled for March 7, 2006.

Peer Mediation

Peer mediators are selected by their peers and teachers and are trained during a two-day peer mediation conference each fall.  Students sign up for peer mediation in the counselors' office.  Peer mediation is offered to all students.

Individual and Group Counseling

Individual and group counseling is offered to all students.  Students needing individual counseling can sign up in the counselors' office.  Parents and teachers may request counseling services for students.
