Clubs at James T. Alton Middle School

September 29th - October 3rd is Club Sign-Up Time.  If you want to join any of the listed clubs, please bring your money to school.  Sponsors will be in the cafeteria before school to take your name & collect dues.  There is no limit on how many clubs you may join.  Each club will meet once a month during DEAR time.  A rotation schedule will be developed.  However, some clubs may have after school meetings.  Make Checks payable to James T Alton School.

BOOK CLUB   

   Sponsor:  Ms. Allen and Ms. Hernandez

   Dues:        $3.00

   Students will participate in grade level book clubs, meeting in the mornings at 7:30 AM, so students need to have transportation available to the school by 7:30 AM.  Meetings will include breakfast, if purchased from the JTA cafeteria, and discussion of books read monthly.

FCA - Fellowship of Christian Athletes

   Sponsor:  Mr. Bennett

   Dues:        $1.00

   Fellowship of Christian Athletes supports our athletic players, while at the same time fellowshipping and edifying God.  All religious denominations welcomed. 

FUTURE EDUCATORS OF AMERICA (FEA)

   Sponsors:   Mr. Lowman & Ms. Minnich
   Dues:               $5.00

   FEA is an organization at Alton for individuals who are interested in possibly seeking to become a teacher in the future.  We will be a service organization that will provide support for our current teaching staff, as well as learn all the important responsibilities of a future educator.  Students wishing to participate must demonstrate exemplary behavior and academic record throughout the school year in order to maintain membership.  We are planning on working closely with NHHS and VGE to give members exposure to all levels of teaching.

SADD

   Dues:         $5.00

   Students Against Destructive Decisions is a national organization that promotes self-esteem, drug and alcohol awareness, and promotes wise, safe decision-making. Guest speakers may be used throughout the year. Last year, we went to Cincinnati.  Another trip will be taken during the school year.  A fundraiser will be held to help cover the cost of guest speakers and the trip.

ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB

   Sponsor:  Ms. Vanyo

   Dues:        $2

   Do you want to be more “GREEN"? Join the environmental club and help spruce up JTA's surroundings.  Students will assist with cleaning up the grounds, planting flowers, learning how to keep the Earth green for you and your future family, etc. 

BIG BLUE CREW         

   Sponsors:  Ms. Perkins, Ms. Hatfield

   Dues:           $3.00

   The Big Blue Crew is a lively club that promotes spirit and pride at James T. Alton.  Crewmembers will support various student teams, organizations, and JTA events.   Most meetings will be held after school. Only join if you have a lot of SCHOOL SPIRIT!  Duties include fund raising and attendance at games.

BETA CLUB   

   Sponsor:  Ms. Baptiste, Ms. Beard, and Mr. Stewart  

   Dues:        For Non-National BETA Club members -- $18;

                     For students who have already been a part of

                     National BETA -- $5.00 

   Beta Club students will be involved in various community and school services and activities.  Students must have a commendable attitude and character, creditable achievement, be interested in leadership, and maintain an A/B average, as well as good standing with teachers. 

KYA (Kentucky Youth Assembly)

   Sponsor:  Ms. Minnich 

   Dues:        $5.00

   KYA will meet the first semester only.  The members will be writing legislative bills and going over Parliamentary procedure to prepare for the annual conference in Louisville and Frankfort.  The students will travel to the conference and experience a mock government!

Guitar Hero Club

   Sponsor: Ms. Henderson

   Dues: $5.00

The Guitar Hero Club is for students interested in Guitar Hero and experiencing music through technology.  We will meet twice a month after school for general play and tournaments.  At the end of the school year, we will have a large tournament to determine a Guitar Hero Champion.  You must keep your grades at a C or above and cannot have any discipline referrals.  Interest forms will be available in the office.
