Application
Applications are available from your school
coordinators. If you are volunteering at your school you need to fill out
an application, so that your school can find the correct placement of your
interest. Also, in case of an emergency the school knows whom to contact.
Background Check/Youth Leader Request
All school volunteers are
required to fill out an annual background check, which is a criminal
records check.
After you complete the
background check it will be sent to Central Office and it will then be sent
to Frankfort, KY to be process. It will take at least 10 working days, so
get them early. The YLR can be obtaining from your School Volunteer
Coordinator or you may copy one from this web site and mail it to Central
Office.
If you know that you will
be volunteering the next school year, you may complete a background check
next year after March 1, so that you will be able to volunteer the
first day of school. Please only fill one form per person and
circle all the schools that you will be volunteering at.
Confidentiality
As you work with the staff and students, information
of a confidential matter may be shared with you. The problems, abilities,
relationships and confidence of student’s parents and staff should never be
discussed with anyone who does not have a professional right to know.
Please respect the students and staffs privacy, like you would your own.
Name Badges
When you are on a school campus, it is important that
you wear your name badges for identification. This is a safety issue for
everyone.
Orientations
All volunteers should attend a volunteer
orientation. These orientations are held at each school in the month of
August, September or October. The orientations are held in an informal
setting to make you aware of the expectations as volunteer and the school
rules. You may also receive some specific instructions pertaining to a
particular of volunteerism. The orientations will also give you a chance to
meet other volunteers that will be working at your school.
Qualifications to be a Volunteer
You should have:

a regular attendance, if required

a willingness to attend a orientation
Recognition of Volunteers
The paycheck for your volunteer services, we hope
will be a really be a rewarding satisfaction in the service you give to our
HCS students.
The annual “Spring
Volunteer Appreciation Celebration” has become a heart-warming event.
At this celebration the entire Harden County Schools staff and students says
“Thank You” by planning a special evening to honor and appreciate all that
you do for the HCS.
An invitation
is send to every volunteer that has volunteered at least ten hours of
service. We sincerely hope that you and your adult guest will make plans to
attend this festive event.
Certificates of
Appreciation are awarded to each
volunteer. The certificates will be distributed at your home school. Your
home school will be the school were you volunteer. If you volunteer at
more than one school then the school of the highest level will be your home
school.
Representing Your School
As a volunteer you will contribute to the image of
the school in the eyes of students, their parents and the community. Thus
your attitude should be to maintain a positive image for the school, which
is in the best interest of students and the entire community.
Supervision
Volunteers always need to work under the direct
supervision of the principal, volunteer coordinator or teacher at each
school. Volunteers should always work only with the teachers to whom they
have been assigned. Hardin County Schools are responsible for the
education, safety and the well being of each student.
Signing In/Out
In case of emergency, security reasons and for
keeping track of your volunteer hours you will be required to sign in and
out each time that you volunteer at your school. |
