James Luttrell

The Vine Grove Elementary School Site-Based Decision Making Council has asked James Luttrell to serve as the next principal at Vine Grove.  He currently serves as principal of Custer Elementary School in Breckinridge County (Kentucky).

“I am honored to be asked to serve Vine Grove Elementary School community as its new principal,” Luttrell said.  “I am thrilled to be a part of the school in the community where I live.  I look forward to developing new partnerships that will help provide our students with the very best.”

Mr. Luttrell started his educational career at Stuart Pepper Middle School (Meade County Schools) in 2003.  He left there to teach AP European History at Meade County High School in 2005.  He served as an assistant principal at Breckinridge County Middle School during the 2012-13 school year.  In August 2013, he was asked to become the principal at Custer Elementary School (Breckinridge County Schools).  He has spent the last five school years there.

“The Site-Based Decision Making Council was extremely impressed with Mr. Luttrell,” Hardin County Schools Superintendent Teresa Morgan said.  “The council created a list of attributes they wanted in their next principal and Mr. Luttrell displays those attributes.  Beyond curriculum, he realizes the importance of community.”

“Together we will continue the rich tradition of academic excellence and preparation of students for an ever-changing world,” Luttrell said.  “We will strive to ensure every student is guided to become the best version of themselves academically, socially, physically, emotionally and culturally.  We will offer our students the best opportunities possible so they may become thoughtful people, equipped to face whatever challenges they may encounter.”

He is 1998 graduate of Meade County High School.  He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Kentucky.  He earned his Rank I in Administration from Western Kentucky University and a Superintendent certification from the University of the Cumberlands.

“His credentials are exceptional,” Morgan added.  “He is a respected educational leader who has had a great amount of success.  He has experience at the elementary, middle school and high school level.  I know he will work hard to ensure the tradition of academic and extracurricular success continues at Vine Grove Elementary School.”

Luttrell added: “I would like to think my wife, Shayna, and our three boys, Jackson, Nickson, and Jameson, for their continued support of my career as an educator."

Retired HCS educators Bobby Lewis and Lonnie Dennis served as interim principals this school year after longtime VGES principal Greg Sutton left in August 2017 to become the HCS Chief Academic Officer.
