Creekside Family Resource Center Information What is the Creekside Family Resource Center (FRC)? The Creekside Family Resource Center was created to serve the children and families in the southern end of Hardin County, which includes the Glendale, Sonora, and Upton communities. The Creekside FRC along with other centers in Hardin County and across Kentucky were created as part of the Kentucky Education Reform Act. The Center is operated as a joint program with the Division of Family Resources and Youth Service Centers (FRYSC) and Hardin County Schools (HCS). Who operates the Creekside FRC? The Center operates through funds provided by the Kentucky Department of Education and administered through the Division of FRYSC’S. A full-time coordinator and community volunteers staff the Creekside Family Resource Center. An advisory council comprised of community representatives, school staff and parents assist the center with recommending policies and programs. Needs Assessment for Programs and Activities The Family Resource Family Survey is a tool that the Coordinator uses to develop programs or activities for families in the Creekside Community. Survey What does the Center have to offer families? The goal of the center is to provide a variety of services designed to help strengthen families. The center works with the schools to help see that each child has an equal opportunity to succeed in school. Some of the activities of the Creekside FRC: First Connections Cradle School…This is an early childhood program that offers enrichment lessons and activities for parents and children together. The program is open to babies and preschoolers from birth to age 5. Schedule First Connections Parents as Teachers Program (P.A.T.)… A program for parents with children from birth to 3 years of age which includes home visits to help the parent recognize developmental milestones, use methods of screening for developmental delays and general support for the parent The program also offers in home enrichment lessons that emphasize that a parents is a child’s first and best teacher. Clothing Closet: The center provides clothing for the whole family. The Clothing Closet is open during regular office hours. Later appointments can be arranged if needed. Food and Clothing: The Center has a list of local clothing closets and food pantries. Referrals: The Center will help families find the community resources they need for such things as: Health Insurance, Food Stamps, Housing, Holiday Assistance, Heating Assistance, and Household items such as stoves, refrigerators, couches, beds, ect. Counseling and Education Services: The Center provides school bases counseling services for families and students. The Center also provides support group for students such as: Military Support, Divorce, Behavioral Management, and Social Skills Responsibilities. After School Programs: The Center provides a Homework Help Program for students that needs extra instruction on completing homework assignments. The program is open for approximately 12 students. The Centers also participates in the Family Food and Fitness Summer Camp for students. Referrals are made for students to attend several community summer camps. Clubs: The Center, in collaboration with community partners, offers a Girl Power Program and Smart Guys Program for 5th grade students. Family Activities: The Center, in collaboration with CES and, provides a variety of activities throughout the year to allow families time together to grow and learn.
