Summary of January 16, 2019 LPC Meeting
The Local Planning Committee met on January 16, 2019.  They heard information on four possible options to help it develop a plan for the best use of facilities and how funding should be used to ensure we have quality facilities while being good stewards of our financial resources.  Those four options are:

  • Keep the existing plan - add onto Cecilia Valley Elementary School making it a preschool - 8th grade school.
  • Convert Lakewood Elementary to West Hardin Middle School.
  • Convert Cecilia Valley Elementary School to a preschool - 6th grade school and build a 7th & 8th grade middle school on the Cecilia Valley Elementary School campus (the sixth grade would be housed in the current Cecilia Valley Elementary).
  • Build a new middle school to replace West Hardin Middle School.

The LPC made no decision and is working on a plan to meet again.  Two citizens spoke to the committee.

Notice of February 11, 2019 Meeting of the LPC - The Hardin County Board of Education’s Local Planning Committee (LPC) will hold a meeting on Monday, February 11th at 5:30 pm at New Highland Elementary School, 110 W. A. Jenkins Rd, Elizabethtown, to discuss an amendment to the district facility plan. Copies of the current District Facility Plan will be available for examination by interested individuals at the board office at 65 W. A. Jenkins Rd., Elizabethtown, KY between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. prior to the meeting February 11th, 2019. Questions may be directed to John Stith at 270-769-8814.

The Hardin County Schools Local Planning Committee (LPC) will be meeting on February 11, 2019 at New Highland Elementary, 110 WA Jenkins Road, Elizabethtown, KY (directly across from Board of Education).  It had previously been scheduled for the Board of Education’s Central Office.  There were several in attendance at the last meeting.  Therefore, it was important to us that we have a space that would accommodate those wanting to attend tonight.

This meeting is a LPC meeting.  It will not be an open forum.  The LPC did conduct an open forum at its January 16, 2019 meeting.  However, it is important to note that at least one other open forum will be scheduled in the near future.

The focus of tonight’s meeting will be around the pro's and con's for each of the five options currently being considered.  LPC members will be able to ask questions, discuss their thoughts and seek clarification on the options.  Once all options are thoroughly discussed, each LPC member will be asked to select the option they feel is best for the entire district.  At the conclusion of the LPC meeting, members will schedule a second public forum to share the results of the LPC committee's work and give those attending the open forum the opportunity to share their comments with members of the LPC.

Based on the information shared at the open forums and LPC meetings, we will then schedule at least one other LPC meeting.  At which time the LPC may then develop a recommendation to the Hardin County Board of Education.
