Central Hardin High School is a comprehensive high school accredited by
both the Kentucky State Department of Education and the Southern Association of
Colleges and Secondary Schools. Our
school community is made up of a diverse population from several small
communities. Over the past few years,
there has been a shift from an agricultural community to more emphasis on
business and industry. Because of our
proximity to Fort Knox, we also have a large number of active and retired
military families in our area. This,
along with the increase of business and industry in the area, provides a
culturally diverse mix of students. The
presence of industry also means that many of our graduates can find work
locally upon graduation.
Current
student population is 1820; the senior class numbers 385.
All Central Hardin High School students are
ranked based on trimester grades. The
rank is unweighted.
Rank and composite G.P.A. are included on senior transcripts.

Central Hardin High School provides the opportunity for further growth
as individuals by offering a variety of extra-curricular programs. Some of these programs include: Academic Team, Art Club, Astronomy Club,
Bruins Against Drugs, Beta Club, Chess Club, FBLA,
FCA, FCCLA, FEA, FFA, French Club, German Club, Science Olympiad, Spanish Club,
Student Council, Teenage Republicans, TSA, Varsity Club, Y-Club, Young
Democrats, and Youth-In-Charge. We also
offer the following sports: Boys and
Girls Basketball, Football, Cross Country, Track, Tennis, Swimming, Softball,
Volleyball, Girls and Boys Soccer, Wrestling, Cheerleading, Mat-Maids and Boys
and Girls Golf.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Students are required to take a minimum of
five courses each trimester, and they must have at least twenty-six credits to
graduate. Classes meet five times per
week for 70-minute periods. The following
distribution of courses is a minimum requirement for graduation with a Regular
Studies Curriculum:
English (4.5); Mathematics
(4) Algebra I and Geometry required; Science (3) Chemistry and Biology
required; Social Studies (3)
World Civilization, Political Science, and US History; Health/P.E. (1); Arts & Humanities (1);
Additional Electives (10)
The Academic Studies Curriculum is a recognition program established by
Central Hardin High School. This diploma
tract requires that students graduate with a minimum 3.0 overall GPA. This diploma is an extension of the Regular
Studies Curriculum. The following
distribution of courses is required for an Academic Studies Curriculum diploma:
English (4.5) Honors English required;
Mathematics (4) Honors Algebra I, Honors
Geometry,
Honors Algebra II required; Science (3) Honors
Chemistry required; Social Studies (3); Foreign Language (2) Of the same language; Health/P.E. (1);
Arts & Humanities (1); Additional Electives
The Commonwealth Diploma is a recognition program established by the
Kentucky State Board of Education and governed by state regulation. This diploma combines the Academic Studies
Curriculum with the national Advanced Placement Program. Advanced Placement (AP) is a program of
college-level courses and examinations offered to high school students. This series of classes gives students the
opportunity to possibly receive college credit for taking the classes and the
exams. Students pursuing the
Commonwealth Diploma must first meet the following requirements receiving a
grade or the equivalent of a 3.0 or better:
(1) Successful completion of at least twenty-seven (26.5) approved units
of credit, including all requirements for the Academic Studies Curriculum (2)
Successful completion of at least four (4) Advanced Placement courses
(a)English Language or Literature(b) Science or mathematics – one course (AP
Calculus, AP Biology, AP Chemistry) (c) Foreign language – one course (AP French,
AP German, AP Spanish) (d) Elective Advanced Placement Course – one course (AP
U.S. History, AP U.S. Government or an AP science or mathematics course). Exams must be taken in three of the required
four subject areas (English, Science/Mathematics, Foreign Language, Elective). The
Kentucky Department of Education will reimburse Commonwealth Diploma graduates
for three exams if they have at least a combined score of an eight or above on
the three exams. Commonwealth Diploma
graduates will receive a separate diploma issued by the Kentucky State
Department of Education in addition to their Central Hardin diploma.
