The Speech Team is composed of dedicated students interested in the performance events and current events. The team has won state and individual awards, including students who have competed at the National level. Students may compete in one or more of the following events: Radio Broadcasting, Declamation, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous Speaking, Humorous Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking, Improvisational Duo, Original Oratory, Prose interpretation, Poetry Interpretation, and Storytelling. Tryouts will be held at the beginning of the year. In the Debate disciplines, students will address issues affecting them in both school and their world, in formats similar to a courtroom setting, as well as a congressional setting. This helps teach them to speak and interact professionally, and prepares them for engaging in these forums in future legal and political affiliated career choices.
