Political Science
Class Syllabus
Central Hardin High School Teacher: Hal Bender
Course Length: 18 weeks
This class is a focus of citizenship and government.
Students will learn the basic rights and
responsibilities that come with being a United States citizen. We will
examine our government’s history and how it has evolved throughout time. Also,
we will discuss other forms of government and compare them to our own.
Throughout the semester we will talk about current news in politics and the
economy. Students will be asked their opinions and explanations often.
Involvement is very important. I know what I think. I want to know what
students think.
Required materials:
- Notebook
(Your choice of style, but you will need a lot of paper!!!)
- Blue
or black ink pen
- 2
pencils
Responsibilities and expectations:
- Respect.
I expect all students to show respect to their teacher, guest speakers,
and fellow classmates.
- The
Boy Scout Motto: Be prepared! Arrive on time with all materials, TEXTBOOK
(EVERYDAY!), and completed assignments.
- Notebook:
You are required to keep a notebook that has only materials for THIS
class. How you organize it is up to you but notebook checks will be
conducted periodically.
- Make-up
Work: If you are absent it is YOUR responsibility to obtain notes from
another student and missed handouts from the extra handout box. I will not
remind you of missed assignments, tests, or quizzes. You have the number
of days missed plus one to complete the assignment.
- This
class will have a lot of class discussion and group activities. You must
participate. I can get tired of hearing myself talk (you may as well
eventually). I want to know what YOU think of the topics discussed. BE AN
ACTIVE LEARNER!
Grading: 30% tests/quizzes, 15%
notebooks, 25% Homework, 10% Final , 10% participation.
