Course Description: This is an advanced Physical Education class that stresses physical conditioning. The class consists of an organized program of cardiovascular, ply-metric and strength training. This class is open to all students. Content will also include nutrition, diet and special health concerns. This class is highly attractive to athletes but not limited to athletes. It can help maintain and supplement in-season, off-season, post-season and pre-season athletes as well as set up a foundation for the none experienced.
Grading: A 92-100, B 83-91, C 82-74, D 72-68, F 67 and below. In physical conditioning class, each student earns 7pts. per day. Students earn 7pts. for dressing in the proper attire for physical activity and participating in the daily activity (Points will be deducted for tardies, poor attitude, and a lack of work ethic). 70% of the student’s grade is based on the number of points possible verses the number of points a student earns. The remaining 30% of the student’s grade is based on how well he/she performs on skills and/or fitness tests, written tests and quizzes.
Attendance Policy: Students are to be present and accounted for each and every day. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. If you have an excused absence then you can get credit for work missed up to three days after you return.
Tardy Policy: If you are not in the door when the bell rings, you are considered tardy. The school’s tardy procedure will go into effect when the first tardy is received.
Medical Concerns: Anyone who has diabetes, heart problems (murmurs/arrhythmias), one paired organ, asthma (individuals must bring inhalers to class each day), joint problems, recent injuries, deformities (scoliosis) or any other concerns that could effect their class performance must bring a physical or documentation with a doctor’s signature to the instructor regarding any limitations or restrictions they may have. It is highly recommended that anyone enrolled in this class obtain a physical before signing up and participating. Anyone who becomes injured during the semester will be held accountable for any exercises within their limitation (These individuals must provide documentation of all limitations to the instructor signed by a physician or points will be deducted).
Weight Room: The weight room can be a very dangerous place if safety is not utilized at all times. It is mandatory to follow all instruction posted or instructions given by your teacher. All weights, bars, and collars must be racked after each exercise is complete. Belts must be worn during potentially dangerous lifts. This would include but not limited to Dead Lifts, Power Clings, Squats and any variations of these lifts. Technique will be heavily enforced over poundage. Leave your egos at the door. Egos can get you hurt but can help you as well. Dressing rooms will be unlocked and locked on a daily basis before and after class (You are responsible for your personal belonging). No one is permitted to go into any other area unless you have obtained permission. No one is permitted to open any outside doors unless instructed to do so. (Contact your instructor immediately). If the teacher is detained from being in the weight room (visitor, phone call, etc.) then all students must be seated on the floor for safety purposes and no lifting shall take place. Disrespect toward the teacher, other students, or school property will not be tolerated and will be dealt with severely. No food, drinks or gum will be allowed in the weight room.
No one is allowed in the speed room, football or boys and girls soccer locker rooms, dumbbell room, or restroom unless permission has been granted. Paper and pencil should be brought to class on a daily base.
