Mission Statement

SENIOR HONOR CORDS

Honor cords for graduation are on sale in the guidance office. Cords are $9 each. Lists of those eligible to purchase cords are posted on the guidance office window, with senior English teachers, and on Ms. Lewis's webpage.

STUDENT NEWS

AP DUAL CREDIT ENGLISH III: All students who have signed up to take AP/Dual Credit English III for next year MUST pick up a Summer Assignment sheet from Ms. Thompson in Room 216. Students who have already picked up sheets MUST complete the requirements for entry into the Moodle class. If you have questions, see Ms. Thompson in Room 216.

AP LITERATURE SUMMER ASSIGNMENT: The summer assignment for Juniors signed up to take AP Literature next year is now available from Mrs. Pearsall in Room 205. Please pick up your assignment ASAP.

FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE

TODAY: All Students Finals: 1st, 3rd & 4th

TOMORROW: Grades 9-11 Finals: 2nd & 5th

AP DUAL CREDIT/USH: Any student signed up to take AP/Dual Credit United States History next year must go by Room 110 to pick up their summer assignment. THIS IS MANDATORY.

CENTRAL TIMES SENIOR EDITION: SENIORS, don't forget to pick up a copy of The Central Times that is dedicated to YOU. In addition to the usual memories, confessions, wills, office visit stories, and famous last words, you'll find several "closer look" stories about your fellow seniors. ALSO, the following teachers and coaches chose to write a letter to you, so you'll want to have a copy to keep: Adams, Dakin, Winebarger, Rineker, Mills, Peoples, Taylor, Crady, and Haun. Grab one for $1!

GRADUATION, PRACTICE AND TICKETS: CHHS graduation date has been set for SATURDAY @ 6PM in the Central Hardin gymnasium. ADMISSION IS BY TICKET ONLY. Each graduate will receive 10 tickets at graduation practice TOMORROW. There are NO extra tickets for distribution. Seniors may ask classmates for extra tickets they will not be using. Seniors MUST be on time for first block (8:30) AND graduation practice TOMORROW (called out of first block) in order to participate in the ceremony. LATE STUDENTS WILL NOT PARTICIPATE. If you have questions, see Mrs. Ross or Mrs. Kremer.

ATTENTION SENIORS - LAST DAY to DOCUMENT LEAVING EARLY TOMORROW!

If you are planning to leave school immediately AFTER GRADUATION PRACTICE TOMORROW office MUST have the following 2 VERIFICATIONS on record:

1) A SIGNED PARENT NOTE TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE GIVING YOU WRITTEN PERMISSION TO LEAVE

AND

2) A PARENT PHONE CALL TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE GIVING YOU VERBAL PERMISSION TO LEAVE

There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this requirement!

GRADUATION PRACTICE SOUND CHECKS: The following seniors will need to REMAIN AFTER graduation practice for sound checks: Michael Price, Austin Martin, Joshua Price, and KJ Hall. See Mrs. Ross in Room 215 for any questions.

GRADUATION PARTICIPATION: All seniors who are participating in the Graduation ceremony MUST be in the commons area at 4:45 on Saturday evening. NO family or friends are to be in the commons area, only graduates.

GRADUATION TASSELS ON SALE: Extra graduation tassels are now available for sale. Any senior who wishes to purchase one for $8 needs to see Mrs. Ross in Room 215.


Hardin County Education and Community television will be streaming HCS graduations on the internet this year. This will be a wonderful opportunity for families that cannot attend our ceremonies to see their loved one graduate.

The process will be easy. Just click the 2013 Graduation Live Streaming Link under News and Announcements on our webpage. Our page is www.hardin.k12.ky.us.

SENIOR LUNCH BALANCE: Any SENIOR with a balance on their lunch account needs to come to the Commons Area TOMORROW morning BEFORE school to see the cafeteria manager (Ms. Lowman) to get a refund. Any refunds after this date will need to be requested to the Child Nutrition office.


STLP CAMP: For all students interested in learning to use technology, stop by the media center and pick up an application to attend a one-day STLP summer camp @ Bluegrass Middle School May 30th @ 8AM-2:20PM. Transportation will not be provided but lunch will be provided.

TEEN CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY: The Elizabethtown Police Department will be conducting our first Teen Citizens Police Academy starting June 3, 2013. The purpose of this program is to develop relationships with young people across the county. Applications and detailed information is available in the guidance office.

GUIDANCE NEWS

ACADEMICALLY PROFICIENT JR. & SR. CONFERENCE: The 2013 Academically Proficient High School Junior and Senior Diversity Conference will be held June 28-29, 2013 @ Eastern Kentucky University, in

Richmond, Kentucky. The conference, sponsored by the Council on Postsecondary Education, is held on the campus of a public, private, or independent college. The conference programs will: 1.) Inform and expose rising juniors and seniors of the various educational opportunities available at colleges throughout the

Commonwealth; 2.) Provide information to assist juniors and seniors to make the adjustments necessary for a

successful college experience; 3.) Provide information to assist students to become effective leaders in school and

in their communities after graduation; 4.) Provide information regarding scholarships, grants, internships, and

financial aid programs available through the KHEAA and institutions; and, 5.) Provide a forum for Kentucky colleges and universities to present information to many of the brightest college-bound students, in a single

MAKE-UP FINAL EXAMS will be administered May 29th – 31st AND June 4th – 7th.

Students may come in between 8:30 AM & 1 PM on those days. Per policy, NO finals will be given early. If circumstances prevent the student from being in attendance for a final exam, he/she must make arrangements with the teacher and guidance office to take the exam later. The student will receive a zero for any final exam not taken on the scheduled days. If the student does not make up the exam(s) during the scheduled time, the zero will remain.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:

Cornell University Summer College—three- and six-week programs for high school students between June 22nd and August 6th. Choose from programs in: architecture, art & design, business, college success, engineering, English for non-native speakers, Environmental Studies, History & Politics, Hotel Management, Humanities, Law & Government, Medicine, Psychology, Research & Science, Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science. KCTCS SUMMER CAREER CRAZE CAMPS: KCTCS Summer Career Craze Camps are for students ages 12-15 who are invited to attend either an Advanced Manufacturing camp at the Springfield KCTCS campus, or Plastics Technology camp at the Elizabethtown campus. Both camps will offer an opportunity to tour a local manufacturer, hear guest speakers and give a better understanding of the background needed for a career in these industries. Applications are available in the guidance office.

University of Kentucky College of Design Summer Career Discovery Program - a two-week educational program on UK's campus for current sophomores and juniors interested in studying architecture and design. Washington University in St. Louis High School Summer Program-get a head start on the full college experience: take two college courses while living on campus for five weeks. Explore your interests and experience

SPORTS & EVENTS

CHEERLEADING TRY OUTS: Anyone interested in trying out for cheerleading needs to pick up a packet in the office. If you have any questions, please see Coach Shauna Thompson.

TENNIS BANQUET: The tennis banquet will be held in the commons TONIGHT@ 6-8 PM. Dress nicely and make sure you bring what is required of your grade level.
