Bluegrass middle school is in flux as to school size. The board of education recently approved to redistrict which will increase our school population from 595 to around 650. Our population is relatively stable, but 20% of our students come and go because of our close military connection. Even though Bluegrass is located in Elizabethtown, KY it still holds on to a rural style, but has a very diverse population. We have strong parent support, and with that support, want to challenge our students whether by using a math placement test or giving students access to math interventions for example. Students may access a wide variety of programs, including band, art, PE, technology, bridge building, rocket team, and Rosetta Stone. These are just a few things Bluegrass has introduced over the last few years. We have made technology integration a priority with wireless saturation within the school, laptop and iPad labs and equipping the teachers with the best equipment to teach like a Active Board, wireless slates, web cams, and document cameras. Hardin County Schools allows for teachers to have additional professional development through our professional learning days. These days allow teachers to have time to access data, work on instructional practices, and learn about new programs being implemented within the school. |
