Kim Crowder, a Kindergarten teacher at Cecilia Valley Elementary School, has earned the 2019 Hardin County Schools WHAS-11 ExCEL Award presented by LG&E KU.

Mrs. Crowder learned about her award this morning after going through a rigorous process.  She will be honored at a celebration on February 27, 2019 at Cecilia Valley Elementary School.  WHAS-11 anchor Lisa Hutson and a representative from LG&E KU will be there to present the ExCEL Award and a $1000 check from LG&E KU.  The money will purchase items for Mrs. Crowder’s classroom.

“Mrs. Crowder makes extremely valuable contributions to the students and staff at Cecilia Valley Elementary School,” Principal Nicole Cullom said.  “Her students enter her classroom prepared to learn each day and they leave each day after exceeding the goals set before them because of Mrs. Crowder’s dynamic leadership.  She builds confidence in children and assures them that they are valuable and worthy of the success they achieve.”

“I am extremely thrilled to have received this award,” Mrs. Crowder said.  “I am truly thankful to all those who have impacted my teaching career and have helped me make a mark on the students who have entered my classroom. Cecilia Valley is a great place for students to learn and our staff to help them grow. We are a family that is totally focused on the whole student. We are grateful for our community and for those who help our students reach their goals.”

Mrs. Crowder came to the district in 1999 as a substitute teacher.  She taught primary grades at Howevalley Elementary School from 2000 to 2003.  After a year at Rineyville Elementary School teaching primary grades, she returned to Howevalley to teach Kindergarten until December, 2017.  She came to Cecilia Valley with her students and fellow staff members when that school opened and replaced Howevalley in January, 2018.

“Her impact is felt beyond her kindergarten classroom,” Cullom added.  “She provides professional development opportunities, participates in extracurricular activities and is an active member of our community.  She consistently formulates and implements rigorous lesson plans.  She supports her colleagues, builds relationships with students and their families and models professionalism.”

“Mrs. Crowder is an exemplary teacher and her hard work represents the selfless dedication that takes place across Hardin County Schools,” HCS Superintendent Teresa Morgan said.  “She continues to learn and grow to ensure she is always improving her craft as a teacher.  She truly is student-centered and gives her students the highest quality instruction possible.  She is passionate about her students and provides multiple ways for them to succeed.  The ExCEL Award may just go to one teacher.  However, it embodies the spirit of hard work, enthusiasm and dedication that every member of the HCS family has.”

Mrs. Crowder is the first Cecilia Valley (or Howevalley) teacher in the history of the HCS WHAS-11 ExCEL Award.
