Students in grades 4-12 can be referred to the Gifted and Talented Program by
a teacher or parent in one or more of the following areas - Creativity,
Leadership, General Intellectual ability, visual art, music, drama or
dance. Referral can be made by a teacher or parent or Standardized
Achievement Test score in specific academic areas including Math, Reading,
Social Studies, Science, or Language Arts. Once a referral is made, the GT
Resource Teacher at the school must collect three pieces of evidence from each
referred area, such as teacher checklists, continuous progress data, diagnostic
data, student work samples, etc., in order for formal identification to be
made.
After the appropriate evidence has been collected, permission to serve is
requested from the parent or guardian. Once permission to serve has been
received, the GT Resource Teacher, classroom teachers and administrative
representative will meet to develop a Student Service Plan that will determine
how services will be delivered. This will be shared with parents. After
the Service Plan has been developed, Gifted and Talented Services outlined in
the Student Service Plan will begin.
